Blood Compact Site/Monument Bohol

To start our Countryside tour, we went to the famous Blood Compact Site. The area has the statue of the leaders having the compact, so expect to have many tourists falling in line just to take a picture with the monument. Overlooking from the place, you can have a beautiful view of Panglao Beach from afar.

our first pose with the blood compact monument

History of the Site:

The LEGAZPI-SIKATUNA BLOOD COMPACT SITE is located in Barangay Bool, a 15-20 minute drive from the port of Tagbilaran City, Bohol. This site commemorates the blood compact between Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, an Explorer of Spain, and Rajah Sikatuna, the Chieftain of Bohol that time. This historical event happened on March 16, 1565.  Blood Compact or called “Sandugo” in Bohol is a ritual where the two leaders cut their wrist and poured their blood into a cup. Each leader drank the cup containing the blood of the other to seal their comradeship. In Filipino words, Sandugo means “Isang Dugo” or “One Blood”.

from this view, you can have a glimpse of Panglao Island

Our driver told us that this is not the “actual” site.  The actual site of the blood compact is located in the town of Loay. The place was discovered in 2006. The area is not yet fully developed so the government of Bohol still retains this monument in Bool because of the tourists’ desire for good pictures with the statue.
